Here is what Ruben Torres had to say about his upcoming fight, training camp, and more.
On his upcoming bout:
“Contreras is a tough Mexican fighter that brings a lot of grit to the ring. I want to thank my manager and trainer Danny Zamora, as well as my promoter Thompson Boxing, for putting in me in a great position in which I am viewed as one of the up-and-coming top prospects in the country. We have a great game plan in place. This will be my sixth bout scheduled for eight rounds, and in my last fight, I went the distance for the first time. My confidence is at an all-time high and I’m looking forward to getting a win. I’m hoping to be in ten-round fights in the near future.”
On recent training camp:
“My training camp was held at the Fundamentals 19 Boxing Gym in Bell Gardens, CA. It was spread amongst myself, my coach’s Danny Zamora and Javier Gomez, and my stablemate Michael Dutchover. I got good sparring with Arnold Barboza and Alex Luna. I loved every minute of this camp, now I just have to make it pay off in a big way.”
On nearing a toward a world ranking:
“I am looking to get into a ten-round fight, once I accomplish that goal, then it is all about who I can fight to get ranked. I am eager to put on fights that people want to see. It is mostly just about if we can make the big fights happen. Once I go to the next level I don’t plan on coming down.”
On Fighting on 3.2.1 Boxing:
“I am grateful to Thompson Boxing, Ken Thompson, Alex Camponovo, and my trainer and manager Danny Zamora. Thompson Boxing has always looked out for me, kept me active, and my family has been able to attend most of my fights, pre-pandemic thanks to most of the shows being in Southern, California. My focus is to do my part and complete the journey by becoming a world champion to show that the belief they had in me was valid.”
