BIOGRAPHY

A native of Lake Elsinore, California, Mauricio Herrera has captivated the Southern California fight scene with an exciting style and the type of talent that have many picking him as a future world champion.

Ironically, Herrera wasn't a big fan of boxing growing up, but at 13, a friend of his father's introduced him to the sport, and the fighter who would eventually become known as "El Maestro" was hooked. During a stellar amateur career, Herrera won 29 of 30 bouts, but he soon became restless and wanted to turn pro. His original trainer kept putting Herrera off, eventually forcing the fighter to look elsewhere for instruction and guidance. He found both in manager and trainer Willie Silva, and on August 24, 2007, Herrera finally turned pro at the age of 27 with a four round decision win over Angel Osuna.

Herrera tore through his early opposition, most impressively stopping hot prospect Pavel Miranda in the eighth round on November 28, 2008. Following the fight, Herrera signed a promotional contract with Thompson Boxing Promotions.

"We've had our eye on Mauricio for a long time, and with his recent win over Pavel Miranda, there was no question that we needed him on our team," said Ken Thompson of Thompson Boxing Promotions. "He's one of California's brightest prospects, and we believe he has the potential of following in the footsteps of another California junior welterweight who became a world champion, Timothy Bradley."

"I spoke with Mauricio Herrera about signing with Thompson Boxing Promotions because I know that they are masters at their craft and will keep Mauricio busy with constant fights and will be able to move him up the ranks consistently," said Silva.

"When Willie Silva proposed that I sign with Thompson Boxing Promotions, I didn't hesitate or question it," added Herrera. "I trust Willie and have fought on Thompson Boxing Promotions cards before, and I knew that this would be the company that can direct my career and grow me into a champion. I am very proud to sign with them."

Herrera has rewarded his new team's faith in him by winning five more bouts, three by knockout, to lift his record to a stellar 13-0 with 6 KOs. In his most recent bout on October 9, 2009, Herrera scored an eight round decision over fellow up and comer Cleotis Pendarvis, and now settled in at junior welterweight, the slick boxing Herrera is looking to take his career to the next level.

"I'm focused on boxing and dedicated to my career," said Herrera. "I'm training and learning every day and I am willing to put in all the hard work necessary to become a world champion one day.
